The Nordic Council of Ministers is announcing a grant to support the creation of media content related to Russian and Polish speaking minorities in the Baltic countries. The electronic application system at www.nordicmediagrants.org is open for applications from 15 January 2020 and the deadline for application is March 1, 2020. The total budget for the programme is 220 000 EUR.
The main objective of the Grant is to increase quality and attractiveness of local, regional and national media and media products in the Baltic countries, with a special focus on inclusive content that addresses the needs and demands of communities in ethnically diverse or distinct regions.
The application can be submitted by editorial offices of media outlets registered in one of the three Baltic States, or by freelance journalists from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The minimum size of the grant is 600 EUR and the maximum – 10.000 EUR. In some cases, in particular where projects include cooperation between several partners in one Baltic country or between partners in more than one Baltic country, as well as investigative journalism projects where a bigger grant size can be motivated, the maximum grant for the project could be up to 20 000 EUR.
The call is open from January 15 until March 1, 2020. Implementation of the approved projects may start from 1st May 2020. All projects must be finished not later than 30th June 2021.
The current program is a continuation of a successful 2018 round of minority media grants. In 2018, 29 projects were granted support. 9 projects were approved in Estonia, 9 projects in Latvia and 11 in Lithuania.
The awarded projects have received an endorsement from significant Russian and Polish language media outlets such as Delfi, Radio 4, Radio Znad Wilii, Novaja Gazeta Baltics, Rigas laiks and many others.
